My piece Titled "All The Same own Below As Above" is to express my emotions towards prejudiced and Conflict between the human race. No matter how far we have come from the past and all the negativity we've overcame as the human race, it remains prevalent and people still remain hateful. It sometimes seems that history is just repeating itself. I took inspiration from a photographer named Mark Peckmezian and Edvard munch's The Scream of 1893

Inspiration
I really wanted to create a piece that evoked feeling in the looker. The piece was to be very clear that way when you saw it you were able to make connections and reflect upon the world around you. The way the two pictures of broken statues were painted to make them realistic even more so then they already were really aught my eye. As you see if they painted all statues the material underneath would be the same just like the human race same tissues skin bones blood and all we're all the same inside. I really liked the shock factor the Edvard's The Scream brings to people I wanted to go for that with the dead in my piece. I wanted them to draw attention to be realistic but not to realistic in a sense.

Basically The American settlers robbed these innocent children of their culture "Kill the Indian, Save the man" is the phrase they would use they glorified the schools claiming good reputations but to no eval the conditions were poor and cruel.

The Apartheid of South Africa was The Jim Crow of the United Sates. It separated people by the colors of their skin and enforced punishment for those who didn't follow through with whatever laws they felt like inventing. |
Feng-Shan Ho, www.yadvashem.org/artifacts/featured/jewish-badge.html. WW2 was when Hitler ruled over the minds of many causing them to commit horrendous crime killing and torturing many innocent people mainly the Jewish population of Germany. However there were many others included in the genocide like gays and anyone who didn't fit the customs of the period. |
Genocide
the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.
Planning Sketches
Going in I felt that I had a lot of great inspiration and Ideas in my head the first being a 360 see through jar with multiple bodies 6ft under and then the top would be lined with fencing and then the historical photos. In the final design I did use the historical photos and fencing as well as multiple people.

Process
After gathering all my materials
I began with the dead I sculpted and then baked them
After which I added details such as hair etc.
Then I filled the box with dirt and placed a head in to see more or less how much dirt was needed
Next I worked on the top portion of the box I pushed 4 wooden dowels in each corner securing them with hot glue then cutting wire strips and wrapping them around the dowels of wood
Once the top portion was done I added all the components together
Then I printed and placed my pictures on the wire
One pictures were attached I added the fence border and once that was done I then added dirt to the top portion of the box as there is dirt above ground same as below

Experimentation
For experimentation I add some components of all my sketches so in the beginning I was only going to attach my images to the wires wall however I felt that the piece was simply to plain just adding the images so I the restarted the top portion.
|
In this photo I show what I previously mention I only added the images to the wire fence and then I restarted as I felt the piece was missing something to add depth behind the meaning the aesthetics.
|
Here I added something in my previous sketches but altered the final outcome. I added a brown fence around the wire wall and kept the photos on the wiring instead of the fence like in the sketch.
|
I then added dirt to the top as originally I was not going to it made more sense to do so. I am glad I thought of it later rather than not as I did not draw it out in the sketches.
Critique
Overall I feel this piece lacks certain things This project has the concepts and components that I wanted in my piece however in the end it's overall not what I envisioned. I think if I had the time I would like to redo the piece with different materials to see what looks best. Maybe changing what I use or how I sculpted the heads of the dead.

Reflection
This project has the concepts and components that I wanted in my piece however in the end it's overall not what I envisioned. I think if I had the time I would like to redo the piece with different materials to see what looks best. Maybe changing what I use or how I sculpted the heads of the dead. Maybe go more in depth of history and connecting more things above ground and below like hiding things within the dirt. Overall I faced no major challenges I just think that I should have created another final sketch that included all the components I wanted to add that way the building process could have been smoother. I think in the future maybe even a bigger piece but the same concept would be really cool. That or manipulating the materials to change it even more. I feel that as part of the younger generation it is important for me to advocate for the past and show people that with open mindsets we can overcome our past.
Connection to ACT
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and it's effect upon your artwork?
I feel that I was able to evoke the feeling Edvard evoked in The Scream into my piece leading for the observer to reflect and foci=us n the message the piece is conveying.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The research is from history sophomore year went a long way in helping me for the basis in what I wanted to discuss. So upon further research I was able to learn more about the history of these races and cultures to explain to the observer.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. While you researched your inspiration?
I have learned that many people especially today don't take things as serious as they should we take things for granted and sort of sweep the problems we face under the rug. We leave the problems we caused in the basement and try to forget or ignore the long lasting affects that those affected live with everyday. So I feel that instilling realization and awareness is important for artists of any generation. I wanted to do that in this piece.
What is the central idea and theme around your inspirational research?
I researched many eras and common simulations in history in order to allow myself to properly advocate in this piece The photographer mark has beautiful pictures that capture reality while Edward painted things that made you think or take numerous double looks because you were so puzzled.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
I inferred that anyone can make a difference through creating something that they feel passionate towards and that with enough will power it can make a difference. I hope to do so with my work and keeping myself focused on teaching and advocating for the problems our world faces in order to better it.
