My piece is titled "I fear myself" Mental Illness is a prevalent demon that claims the mind of many. In this piece I wanted too present those internal way some of us feel at times. I used Three acrylic colors to create this piece. I took inspiration from artist Pablo Picasso's blue period. For me blue is a powerful color that can manipulate the eyes of the viewer. Not everyone expresses these emotions and mental illness is un-diagnosed in many. I wanted to remind others to take care of themselves and take care of each other.
Inspiration
Pablo Picasso went through a period where he painted only using blues. The piece to the right is titled "The Old Guitarist" The old man looks broken to me his sunken expressions and tattered clothing. The piece makes me feel a sense of sadness and sorrow for the man.

This piece by Picasso to me makes the "woman with her arms crossed" look cross or sad. In the time period the population had to face many hardships more so then we do now and I can imagine the feelings and thoughts crossing the woman's mind.

Once again in this image we see the blind man with the sunken expression in comparison to the young boy who sits and eats. I to loved the body structure of the blue period pieces frail and limp. I took inspiration from the body structure highly in my piece. “Pablo Picasso, Blue Period Art and Depression.” UKDHM – Douglas Tilden, 1860–1935, ukdhm.org/pablo-picasso-1901-1904-blue-period-art-and-depression/.

Reflection
Overall I feel that I executed my painting well it represents all that I wanted it to feel gloomy and ominous. I wanted to portray the way I feel sometimes. Not to say that I feel this way all the time I think that we all sometimes go to a place where we fear the world and ourselves. The only thing that I would like to change is the execution of the piece I regret adding the shadow behind her and I think in the future I will retouch the whole piece to make the overall outlines clean and crisp.
Connection to Act
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and it's effect upon your artwork?
Both my piece and the work of Pablo Picasso were meant to make others aware to invoke feeling. Pablo created the collection How the Other Half Lives for a reason and in that I feel I made this piece with the intention to reach people widely.
What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
The research is from art history sophomore year only went so far into these photographers. So upon further research I was able to learn more about how and why he began to do what he did.The way he did it.
What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. While you researched your inspiration?
I have learned that many people especially today take things for granted and sort of sweep the problems we face under the rug. So I feel that instilling realization and awareness is important for artists of any generation.
What is the central idea and theme around your inspirational research?
I researched many photographers and I think that both Eugéne and Jacob really stood out to me as far as what I wanted to accomplish with this piece. I intended to use Hispanic photographers like Enrique Metinides who photographed the real true horrors of crime during his time but I felt that I did not want my piece to come off as dark.
What kind of inferences did you make while reading your research?
I inferred that anyone can make a difference through creating something that they feel passionate towards and that with enough will power it can make a difference.
